WICCAN FRIENDS

The first day of class was great. I got to meet some amazing hair artists. We are working on mastering the art of hair transformation and maintenance. I highly appreciate this little nuance, as I hate to follow along gay clichés. I’m proud of my skills with hair but accepting this new journey has felt shadowed by a latent insecurity. Just ‘cause I’m gay doesn’t mean that I’m supposed to be a flight attendant, an interior designer, or a hairstylist!

I walked in with jitters, but that instantly melted when I saw the glorious and amazing Michael Steven. I didn’t even know that he was an instructor for the program. He had never mentioned anything about working with Aveda, or I could have been too drunk when he mentioned it. Either way, when I saw his gleaming smile, tilt of the head, and a shriek as he yelled out: “Tristan Graydin! Oh, my favorite!” We both giggled and tried to compose ourselves in front of the new artists. “Of course, Tristan won’t be my favorite in this program, I actually hate him right now and he’s already at the bottom of my list. No need to worry pupils, he’s only my favorite outside of our learning experience together. I’m almost tempted to flunk you right now. No matter, I’ve moved on and ‘tis time to begin your teachings.” He blurted this all out and spun and readdressed the class to discuss the next steps and expectations. It was a blur of information, but a great start to my first day of the rest of my career.

To help celebrate, Miguel and Juan are treating me to a nice dinner and we’re going to meet up with friends for drinks later this week. They’ve been very supportive of my career change. Though they both work for high level companies, they told me that they are impressed that I could change my lifestyle.

It’s nice that they are providing excellent support. To that fact, most people in my life have been extremely supportive of this new change. I’ve found a new self-worth, and I’m happier, but that’s not the whole story. The magical awakening that I’ve experienced has done more for me in positive ways than anything else has.
